Workshop Descriptions

Put the Child First

This is a training session about child abuse that has been developed for use by volunteers and leaders in youth-serving organizations. The program is educational information on recognizing signs of abuse and what to do to help young people in these situations. We do not expect the volunteer leader to be the professional. 4-H offers this session because we want to be able to say:

  • that our programs provide a safe and happy place for children
  • that volunteers in our program understand how to care for children with respect for their personal, emotional and physical space
  • that we are doing all we can to protect children from abuse

Introduction to 4-H

This session will provide an introduction to 4-H for new leaders. Topics will include: objectives of the 4-H program, 4-H pledge, 4-H motto, 4-H logo, 4-H British Columbia structure, 4-H projects, 4-H program and travel options, and the basics to managing a 4-H club. Leaders attending this course will receive a complimentary copy of the 4-H Leaders Handbook.
