Provincial Club Week

B.C. 4-H Provincial Club Week, 2010
"Journey of Exploration"

"PCW has been amazing. I have made lifelong friends and I am very excited to put into practice the skills I have learned here. This has been a life changing experience." - Mariah, 2010 Delegate

Forty-nine Senior B.C. 4-H Members shared the same excitement during the week long conference focused on personal development and leadership. The group of 16-19 year olds travelled from around the province to the Naramata Centre for Continuing Education during their spring break, March 7th-13th. The week was filled with making new friendships and finding out how the 2010 theme "Journey of Exploration" can impact their lives. Delegates were challenged to test boundaries and expand perspectives through small group interaction, and by working productively on committees, developing their team building and presentation skills. Delegates have returned home more confident with stronger leadership, enthusiastic team spirit, and improved communication skills.

"PCW has helped me realize that risks of everyday life should not be feared but seen as opportunities to succeed." - Anna, 2010 Delegate

"PCW was undoubtedly the most powerful 4-H experience I have had to date. It has positively changed the way I feel about myself and the world around me." - Shannon, 2010 Delegate

Dozens of similar quotes have been written about Provincial 4-H Club Week. Not only is the event memorable for the members, but the volunteer facilitators and staff also experience the power of the program. Five facilitators, two chaperones and the program development staff lead the participants during small group time and trust building exercises, and supervised recreation time.

A secondary purpose of PCW is to match delegates with various upcoming Provincial and National 4-H travel opportunities, including B.C. 4-H Food for Thought, Ottawa Citizenship Seminar, and the USA National 4-H Conference. Delegates are asked to rate the travel opportunities by their personal preferences. They are then evaluated at the end of the conference by the Selection Committee, made up of PCW staff, and are selected based on past 4-H involvement, individual opportunity preference, leadership potential, and program participation.

Through the generous contributions of Agrium Canada, the B.C. 4-H Foundation, the BC Ministry of Agriculture & Lands, Growing Forward, a federal-provincial-territorial initiative, Simmons, Black and Emsland Insurance Services and the Trevor Carsen Millar Legacy Fund, this program has had an immediate, and long term, positive impact on the youth of BC. What an amazing legacy for our members, families and communities. We thank our partners and sponsors for helping to make this worthwhile program possible.

"Thank you for allowing me to have an experience of a lifetime." - Kurt, 2010 Delegate
