2017 4-H BC Scholarship Winners


4-H British Columbia Provincial Scholarships


Provincial and National 4-H Scholarships ranging in value from $500 to $10,000 will be available to 4-H British Columbia members pursuing a post-secondary education in the coming school year.


Open to all 4-H members who are completing grade 12 (or have completed grade 12), have not previously received a provincial 4-H scholarship, are planning to enroll in post-secondary education by December 31st annually, have achieved in 2 years within the last 3 years in 4-H and have been registered as a 4-H member within the last 2 years are encouraged to apply.

 

  4-H British Columbia Foundation Scholarship

Number of Awards: One

Value: $1,000

Application Deadline: April 15 annually 

For use at University, Technical or Vocational School in any field of study.

 

B.C. Youth in Agriculture Foundation Scholarship

Number of Awards: Two

Value: $2,000

Application Deadline: April 15 annually 

For use at University in any field of study.

 

Chernoff Family Foundation Scholarships

  *Two years of studies required

Number of Awards: Three

Value: $5,000

Application Deadline: April 15 annually 

For use in any field of study at any university. This scholarship will be renewed for a second year for a total value of $10,000.

Value: $1,000

Application Deadline: April 15 annually 

For use in any field of study at trades, technical or diploma courses. This scholarship will be renewed for a second year for a total value of $2,000.

 

Wim Zylman Agriculture Memorial Fund

Number of Awards: One

Value: Minimum of $750

Application Deadline: April 15 annually 

Priority will be given to second year students with a farming background enrolled in an agriculture diploma program at a post-secondary institution.

Annie Zylman Agriculture Memorial Fund

Number of Awards: One

Value: Minimum of $750

Application Deadline: April 15 annually 

Priority will be given to student going into trade or agricultural studies program. 

Western Producer Scholarship 

Number of Awards: One
Value: $1,000
Application Deadline: April 15 annually 
Has been a 4-H BC member.  

Mutual Fire Insurance Company of British Columbia Scholarship 

Number of Awards: Two
Value: $1,000
Application Deadline: April 15 annually 
For use in any field of study at trades, technical or diploma courses.

Saanich Fruit Growers’ Association Scholarship

Criteria:
• For use at University, Technical or Vocational School in any field of study.
• For use for trades, technical or diploma courses in any field of study.
• Priority will be given to students enrolled in an agriculture program.

This scholarship(s) shall be for one academic year and may be renewed at the discretion of the Selection Committee upon re-application by the recipient.

MNP Scholarships 

Number of Awards: 2 

Value: $1,000

Application deadline: April 15 annually 

Criteria: The MNP LLP Scholarship will be awarded to a full-time student, entering their third year of study working towards a Bachelor of Commerce Degree .The student will have expressed a strong interest in pursuing an accounting career, with preference to those students that have a declared accounting major. The student must be a 4-H British Columbia Alumni with a minimum of 4 years achievement. 

 

BC Agriculture in the Classroom Foundation Teacher Education Scholarship 

 

Number of Awards: 1

Value: $1,000

Application Deadline: Arpil 15 annually 

Criteria:

  • Two years achieved in the 4-H BC Program.  
  • Has been a 4-H BC member within the last six years.
  • Is enrolled or planning to be enrolled in a universtiy Teacher Education Program in BC.
  • Shows a strong interest in using agriculture to teach their chosen subjects or grade level (s)
  • For use in the post-secondary education training in the field of Teacher Education. 

BC Young Farmers Scholarship

Number of Awards:                One

Value:                                     $500

Application Deadline:             April 15 annually 

Must be enrolling in an agricultural based post-secondary program.

 

Richard Fatt Memorial 4-H Scholarship

Number of Awards:              Two

Value:                                   Maximum of $4000

Application Deadline:           April 15 annually 

Criteria:

  • For use at University, Technical or Vocational School in any field of Agriculture with full time course load annually.
  • Priority to first time applicants in the following order:  (1) South Malahat 4-H members (2) Vancouver Island Region 4-H members (3) all other 4-H District and Region 4-H BC members.


The application deadline for all Provincial awards is April 15 annually. Unless other indicated, all applicants must complete and return

the scholarship application, found in the Opportunites Guide & Applications Publication #129 (Please see Resources/Publications) and send all required documents to the 4-H British Columbia office.

Ian Paton Sr. Memorial Scholarship


One $2000 scholarship will be awarded annually in memory of Ian Paton Sr. and his contribution to the 4-H program in BC. This scholarship will be awarded to a student pursuing post secondary education in Agriculture and who has a background in agriculture. Application deadline is April 15 annually.

 

University of Lethbridge Cor Van Raay Agility Award in Agriculture 


Number of Awards: Five

Value: $1,500

Application deadline: November 1 annually 

Eligibility: Continuing undergraduate students with an interest in agriculture or agribusiness innovation and entrepreneurship must have strong academic standing.

Pereira Entrepreneurship Award

Number of Awards: One

Value: $1,000

Application deadline: January 15th to March 15th annually 

Eligibility: New high school applicants admitted to a Bachelor of Management program and who are involved in entrepreneurial activities (e.g. Jr Achievement, Canadian Youth Business Foundation, Community Futures, 4-H, self-initiated).

Kay Puhallo Memorial Bursary


Number of Awards: Two
Value: $500
Application Deadline: September 1st Annually

Criteria:

  • Must be a 4-H member enrolled in a post-secondary education program and will attend the program the same year as they receive the award
  • 4-H member will be in good standing and actively participating with a 4-H Club that attends the Provincial Winter Fair
  • 4-H member will participate in the Provincial Winter Fair in the year the scholarship is awarded

Applications must include the following information:

  • Name, age, years in 4-H, Club(s), projects and achievements
  • Post-Secondary Education Program – currently enrolled
  • Written description of their educational goals
  • Name and phone number of their current 4-H Leader

The bursary will be awarded based on the member’s 4-H achievements as well as their citizenship and leadership qualities. The Puhallo Family will choose the 4-H Members they feel will benefit the most from the bursaries; they will be awarded by September 1st of each year to assist with educational costs. A plaque will be given to the 4-H members at the Provincial Winter Fair banquet to acknowledge the bursary and its recipients.

WestGen Education Awards

Criteria:

  • Western Canadian post-secondary students that have completed at least one year of college/university
  • Must be a WestGen member, or son/daughter of a WestGen member
  • Must submit an original, official transcript from a post-secondary institution (faxed & photocopied submissions will not be accepted)
  • Must submit proof of enrolment at a post-secondary institution in the agriculture or veterinary department

Jack Pemberton Youth Development Bursary

Excellence in Ag Program

We run a scholarship and internship program that helps finance a student’s education, provide valuable field experience, and build their professional career in the agribusiness industry. Up to four students studying agriculture or business at an accredited institution will be accepted to the program every year and receive:

Scholarships - The scholarship has a value of up to $20,000, with up to $5,000 per year paid over a maximum of four years.

Internships - Paid summer internships will be available for up to three years at a retail co-operative in Manitoba, Saskatchewan or Alberta.

Employment - Upon successful completion of post-secondary education, students have the opportunity for full-time employment — including a signing bonus — at a retail co-operative.

4-H Canada is proud to announce that through the generosity of the Canadian Co-operative Wool Growers, two scholarships - each valued at $500 – are available to 4-H members planning to attend a Canadian university or college in September 2017 in an agriculture-based program, ideally with a focus on sheep related studies. 

CIBC 4-H Post-Secondary Education Scholarships

John Deere Canada 4-H Scholarships 
4-H Canada is proud to announce that through the generosity of John Deere Canada, 15 scholarships – valued at $1,000 each – are available to 4-H members across Canada. TD 4-H Agriculture Scholarships 
4-H Canada is proud to announce that through the generosity of TD, 12 - $2,500 scholarships will be available to 4-H members across Canada.  These 4-H members must be planning to pursue a post-secondary education in agriculture, ag-science or agri-business in the fall of 2017. 

Weston Family 4-H Agricultural Scholarships 
4-H Canada is proud to announce that through the generosity of The W. Garfield Weston Foundation, full year tuition scholarships are available to 4-H members from across Canada who will be attending a Canadian university pursuing an agricultural-based degree in the fall of 2017. Successful applicants could be undergrads, graduate students or completing their post grad program.
